Banking Technology Application in India In the early 1980s the very first step towards automation of banks took place in India with the Rangarajan Committee Report, which elucidated guidelines for total bank automation. But the computerisation that followedwas confined only to intra-branch until the early 1990s when real inter bank information sharing took place in banks. Private banks like ICICI and HDFC forayed into banking arena with huge investments in information technology with a clearmotive to provide banking services atminimal cost... Banking Technologies for Rural India "Recent studies indicate that the actual level of non-performing assets (NPAs) in the rural sector is less than elsewhere (urban sector), and this coupledwith the low cost of operations, less expensive labour, infrastructure, cost of living, and so on make Rural India an attractive market"...
